International Writers Workshop on the Sea and the Waterfront 2007

Hong Kong Baptist University hosted its International Writers Workshop this year on "The Sea and the Waterfront" in October 2007 in Hong Kong. Nine writers of international reputation from Australia, the Barbados, Greece, Indonesia, Ireland, Poland, the Mainland, Taiwan and Vietnam joined the International Writers Workshop (IWW), which was launched on 9 October 2007 with the theme "The Sea and the Waterfront". A "Visiting Writers 2007 Welcoming Reception & Creative Works Recital" was held to introduce the writers to the media and to leading cultural figures in Hong Kong. The guests included government officials, consuls-general and other diplomats. The nine visiting writers at the ceremony were Mr. Adam Aitken from Australia, Ms. Margaret Gill from the Barbados, Mr. Anastassis Vistonitis from Greece, Ms. Nukila Amal from Indonesia, Mr. Shay Fennelly from Ireland, Ms. Marzanna Kielar from Poland, Mr. Deng Gang from the Mainland and Mr. Liao Hung Chi from Taiwan. To mark the official opening of the Workshop, the writers recited passages from their works at the reception. During the month of October the writers gave several classes on poetry and creative writing to students in HKBU, and presentations in Chu Hai, Weihai and Jinan universities in China.
